Kurwongbah State School Is Going Cashless

The safety, wellbeing and hygiene of students, parents and staff is a top priority at Kurwongbah State School. Going forward, with this in mind, Kurwongbah School will be going cashless.

This measure will minimise the risk of contamination by transmission when paying with cash.

There are various ways to pay for excursions / activities for your child.

Acceptable methods of payment include:

  • BPOINT (preferred method)
  • QParents
  • EFTPOS

Please contact the School Office if you require any assistance with payments.

Absences

Absence notification process

When reporting absences, please use our SMS service (preferably) on 0429 919 560. Your other means of letting us know is via our absence line (3481 4366), by QParents or by the main phone line. Please be sure you indicate the following when reporting the absence:

  • Name of child (especially if there is more than one child in your family)
  • Absence reason – Please indicate if your child is sick or at an appointment etc. Indicating that your child is not coming to school, does not give a true reason for the absence
  • Late Arrival – If your child will be late due to an appointment, please indicate an approximate time of arrival
  • Dates of absences, if longer than 1 day

When using our absence line (3481 4366), please speak very clearly. It is a requirement of the Department of Education for all absences to be explained.

Contact Details

It is important that the school have the correct contact details. If you have changed your mobile phone number, address or email address, could you please complete the attached form and forward to the office. Please be also aware if you have a change in emergency contacts.

Music News

Welcome back everyone to ‘face to face’ music. As we all return to school this week it is a very exciting time for our music students and teachers who are keen to get back into making music. Below is the staggered return of music in our school.

  • Week 6: All instrumental lessons will recommence.
  • Week 7: Instrumental Music rehearsals will recommence.
  • Week 8: Choir rehearsals will recommence.

Charges for Singing Groups and Instrumental Music Students in 2020

Invoices were sent home at the end of term 1 for music charges. These charges were amended and had the uniform hire removed for 2020. Due to the current guidelines around banning mass and non-essential gatherings, students would only have limited opportunities to wear the Performance Uniform so we decided not to distribute them this year and waive the uniform fee for 2020. If circumstances change we will advise parents in the future. Payment can be made by QParents, EFTPOS or by BPOINT (preferred) using the invoice that was emailed to you.

Instrumental Music

Instrumental lessons started this week with rehearsals scheduled to start next week. Please ensure your child has all the equipment required for his/her lesson including a timetable for the remainder of term two.

The Junior Concert Band will start rehearsals for the first time next week. Mr Denning will speak to those students in lessons this week with further information.

Below is a list of arrival / start time for the different instrumental groups. All instrumental teachers will be here ready to receive students from 7.30am. Please do not send your child before 7.30am as there is no supervision. Only students participating in these rehearsals are to be on site at 7.30am. Other siblings do not need to be on site prior to 8.30am and parents requiring earlier supervision are advised to contact OSHC to discuss placements for their children.

Fatility Free Friday

Fatality Free Friday is an annual campaign run by the Australian Road Safety Foundation. It is Australia's largest community-based road safety day to raise awareness of the human cost of careless driving by calling for extra vigilance behind the wheel. In 2020, the national day of action is Friday 29 May. The Department of Transport and Main Roads is proud to support this important campaign, and calls on all Queenslanders to take the pledge to choose road safety, not just on Fatality Free Friday, but every day.
