Staffing Update for Term 4
Thank you to our school Guidance Officer Mrs Tanzer, who is retiring at the end of this Term. We wish you good health and every happiness in your retirement and thank you for your dedication and commitment to our students over the last 6 years at Kurwongbah.
Thank you to Miss Hargreaves for replacing Miss Aland as class teacher of Senior E2. We thank you for all the work you have done with our students and hope that you have enjoyed being back at Kurwongbah. Miss Hargreaves is a past pupil at Kurwongbah State School.
Thank you also to Mrs Ryan for replacing Mrs Sutherland as IEC Teacher during Term 3. We hope you have enjoyed your time at Kurwongbah and we thank you for the work you have done with our students.
School Parades
With a relaxation in Covid Restrictions school parades have now resumed each Friday Morning from 8.55am in our school hall. Parents are welcome to attend. Please check in with the Check In QLD App at the entrance to the hall and wear a mask. This Friday is the Annual Book Week Parade which was postponed in August due to Covid Restrictions.
Thank you to Senior F1 and Mrs Gillespie who performed on parade last fortnight as they recalled detailed information about what they had learnt in their English Unit culminating in a poetry recital. Well done on the confident way you spoke on parade students.
Children Leaving Kurwongbah
We are starting the process of forming classes for 2022. Parents whose child or children (other than Year 6 students) will be leaving Kurwongbah at the end of the year are asked to inform the school office please.
2022 Parent Class Requests
We are beginning the process of forming classes for 2022. This is a thoughtful process which takes into consideration many factors. Our underlining consideration is always, what is the best learning environment for each student?
If there are specific learning needs for your child which you would like us to take into consideration, please write these needs, along with your child’s name and year level they will be in next year, and hand this into the office by Friday 15 October. This is not a teacher selection process so please don’t request a particular teacher.
Parents are advised that, whilst consideration will be given to requests, final class formation decisions will be made by the school administration in consultation with teaching staff. It is important any requests are submitted in writing.
School Holidays
A reminder that the last day of Term 3 is this Friday 17th September.
School resumes in Term 4 on Tuesday 5th October.
School Watch
We are asking our community to report any suspicious activity in our school grounds during the holidays to the School Watch Team on ph: 13 17 88. We take pride in our school facilities and trust you will work with us to prevent any damage occurring during the vacation period. We need to reduce vandalism, theft and arson in Queensland schools.
Show Holiday
A reminder that the show holiday for Moreton Bay Region has now been rescheduled to Friday 29th October (Term 4 Week 4).
Year 5 Camp – Mapleton
A reminder that the 3 Day Year 5 Camp at Mapleton begins on Wednesday 6th October in Week 1 of Term 4.
Procedure on Wednesday Morning
Students are to arrive at school by 8:30am.
- Drop Off Suitcase to the area behind the tuckshop.
- Drop Medication to the area near First Aid.
- Wait in the Undercovered Area until 8:30am. Students are then to move to the Hall to be placed in their activity groups.
Gear List
Please ensure all personal items on the Gear List are clearly labelled.
Medication
Medication is to be placed in a sealed ziplock bag, clearly labelled with the student's name.
Any medication must be prescribed by a GP, including over-the-counter medication (e.g. paracetamol, vitamins).
To accept medication, we require,
- Medication, labelled with Child's Name and prescribing practitioner
- Administration of medication at school record sheet (routine/short-term medication)
- Action Plans (if not already provided to school) e.g. Asthma
A separate form is required for each medication.
Junior Swimming

Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson
In 2021, both editions of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation's much loved ABCSL were live streamed on Tuesday 7 September, during National Child Protection Week.
The lesson and supporting information are available at
https://danielmorcombe.com.au/australias-biggest-child-safety-lesson-2/
Voluntary Contribution
Voluntary Contribution is a vital part of the Kurwongbah P&C’s commitment and helps to fund reading books, maths & science consumables, art consumables, digital resources, sporting equipment and positive behaviour learning program resources.
You can make a financial contribution to the school by completing the attached form and forwarding with payment to the school office. The contribution equates to $1 per week for the 40 weeks of the school year.
Lost Property
Jumpers & Jackets
Please claim your jumpers and jackets from our school lost property. Any unclaimed items remaining on the last day of term will be donated to either the Uniform Shop or a local charity.
Watches & Glasses
There is a large selection of watches and glasses held at the main office. Please enquire if you are missing any.
Student Absences
Thank you to parents for using our SMS service when reporting an absence. Could you please ensure that a reason for your child’s absence is provided. A reason of ‘away’ or ‘at home’ does not give a correct code to place into our system and your child will have an ‘unexplained absence’ marked against their name.
Father’s Day in Prep
Thank you to our special dad's, granddads and special adults who joined our Preps for a morning of celebrations on Thursday 2nd September. Loads of fun was had by all.

Resource Centre News
This week has been an amazing week where we were able to come face to face with some published authors and hear how they were inspired to write their stories!
Yesterday the Year 3-6 students heard how Candice Lemon Scott loves animals and develops her stories from her personal experiences. She spends time speaking to people who have an in-depth knowledge of the content that she includes in her books to ensure that they are based on facts. Several of Candice’s books are able to be borrowed from the library and we look forward to her next instalment about the cyborg shark which is due to be released in February 2022.
Today the Prep-Year 2 students spent some time with Yvonne Mes who took them on an adventure into the fabulous life of a famous author. She read us the story of ‘Oliver’s Grumbles and then showed us how to visualise and draw our own!
This Friday is the very anticipated Book Parade! We are very excited to see all of the students dressed up in their class’s theme! Our Book Parade commences at 9.00. I wonder what our administration team is going to be dressing up as? Will they have an academy nominated performance for you to view?
We have had several competitions running the library and we were delighted to announce the winners at the authors visits today. On Friday the winners are reminded to come to the library to collect their prizes. Congratulations!

Just a reminder that overdue notices were sent home last week. We appreciate the students and families that have searched high and low for the overdue books. Please keep looking or make payment as required.
Have a wonderful holiday and we look forward to seeing you back in the library next term!
Many thanks and Happy Reading,
Your friendly Library Crew
