School Parades

With a relaxation in Covid Restrictions, school parades have now resumed each Friday morning from 8.55am in our school hall. Parents are welcome to attend. Please check in with the Check In QLD App at the entrance to the hall and wear a mask.

On the last Friday of Term 3 the school celebrated Book Week with a vibrant display of Book Characters by students and staff. It was a wonderful way to finish the school term and celebrate students love of reading. A special thanks to our Acting Teacher Librarian Mrs Shirley for all her work in organising the Book Week Parade for this year.

2021 Book Week

Due to our Prep students being at swimming on the last Friday of Term 3, students from Junior A and Junior B presented their Book Week parade last Friday. Well done to students and staff who dressed up in costumes and made it such a memorable event for everyone involved. It was also great to see the large number of parents who were also able to attend parade.

Thank you to Middle F1 and Mr Koenig who performed on parade last week as they recalled detailed information about the First Fleet as well as important environmental messages about protecting the environment. Well done on the confident way you spoke on parade students.

Children Leaving Kurwongbah

We are starting the process of forming classes for 2022. Parents whose child or children (other than Year 6 students) will be leaving Kurwongbah at the end of the year are asked to inform the school office please.

2022 Parent Class Requests

We are beginning the process of forming classes for 2022. This is a thoughtful process which takes into consideration many factors. Our underlining consideration is always, what is the best learning environment for each student?

If there are specific learning needs for your child which you would like us to take into consideration, please write these needs, along with your child’s name and year level they will be in next year, and hand this into the office by Friday 15 October. This is not a teacher selection process so please don’t request a particular teacher.

Parents are advised that, whilst consideration will be given to requests, final class formation decisions will be made by the school administration in consultation with teaching staff. It is important any requests are submitted in writing.

Year 5 Camp-Mapleton

Last week the Year 5 students and staff attended a three-day school Camp at Mapleton on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The students had a terrific time and came home with many wonderful experiences and stories to share. The students were involved in a range of activities which can’t normally be undertaken at school such as high ropes activities, rock wall climbing, Archery, Canoeing, Bush Skills and Problem Solving games.

Thank you to Miss Aland, Mrs Farley, Mr Crowe, Mrs Gillespie, Mrs Longton, Chappy Carly, Miss Camilleri, Mrs Sutherland, Mr Fowler, and Mr Wood for attending camp and making it such a memorable time for our students. A special thanks to Miss Aland, Miss Camilleri and Mr Wood for all of their organisation and planning of camp.

State Education Week 24-30 October

The theme for 2021 is 'Strong communities, successful students'. This theme highlights how whole school communities have come together during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that student success is always at the forefront. We look forward to celebrating our school community during week 4.

World Teacher’s Day and Staff Support Day

Due to the public holiday on Friday 29th October, our school will be celebrating World Teacher’s and Staff Support Day on Thursday 28th October. This day is a great opportunity for students and parents to show their appreciation for all the hard work our teachers and support staff do for their students. Kurwongbah staff are extremely dedicated and have a strong commitment to their role as educators. I encourage students and parents to make this day special for their child’s teacher. We will be acknowledging the wonderful work our teachers and support staff do at parade on Thursday 28th October.

2022 Student Leadership

The process for the selection of our 2022 Student Leadership team has commenced. Students currently in Year 5 2021 are able to nominate for the positions of Student Leaders Council, House Captain and Music Captain. Nomination forms are due back to the office by Wednesday 20th October. Following this, students will be shortlisted with speeches and elections occurring over a number of weeks this term. We encourage our Year 5 students to nominate for a leadership position and wish them all the very best in this process. Nomination forms are available from the office.

School Parking Patrol Program – Moreton Bay Regional Council

Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) Local Laws Unit undertakes a School Parking Patrol Program where officers complete scheduled school patrols, both in the morning and afternoon, to ensure that vehicles are parked in a safe and lawful manner. The primary aim of the program is to ensure that students and family members/caregivers are able to safely move around the school area as part of dropping off or picking up students from the school.

The Moreton Bay Regional Council Local Law No.5 (Parking) 2011 and Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1999 control parking or stopping of vehicles on footpaths, bicycle paths, marked yellow lines, shared paths, dividing strips and nature strips, along with vehicles parking across residents driveways and within ‘No Stopping’, ‘No Parking’, and ‘Bus Zones’ and Pick-up / Drop -off zones. Council is legally required to enforce these areas and the School Parking Patrol Program forms part of this process. Drivers are reminded that footpaths and nature strips are in place to promote pedestrian movement in a safe manner along roadsides and that drivers and residents must not stop on a bicycle path, shared path, dividing strip or nature strip. Please also note that vehicles that are parked with two wheels up and two wheels down is not considered as a lawful parking practice.

Local Laws officers conduct enforcement through the issuance of Penalty Infringement Notices as part of each School Parking Patrol. Please be aware that Council officers may take photographic evidence of vehicles stopping or parking illegally with Penalty Infringement Notices to be issued via mail at a later date to the offending vehicle’s owner.

Visit the link below for further guidance on parking restrictions.

For any further information, members of the School community are welcome to contact Moreton Bay Regional Council on 3205 0555.

Choir News

Rehearsals and back in full swing over the next 5 weeks. Currently there are no restrictions on choir rehearsals, so all the choirs are rehearsing as a group rather than in year level groups. Year 5 and 6 students from the Senior Singers will rehearse every Friday morning commencing at 7.45am. As well as performing at the End of Year Night of Music all the choirs will perform on Parade in that same week on Friday, 12 November. Rehearsals for the Senior Singers will end in week 6 so please make alternative before school arrangements for you child.

Prep One Singers

The Prep One Singers had their first rehearsal this week with Mrs. C and Ms Walitsbuhl. There was a record number with 122 students! This is the largest choir at Kurwongbah. We will rehearse every Thursday at second break for the next 5 weeks and then perform on parade with all the other choirs on Friday, 12 November. This group will not perform at the End of Year Night of Music.

We hope you all had a lovely break! Vacation care was a blast. Some of the program highlights were the rock-climbing wall, our very own YMCA colour run, the neon disco, Old MacDonald’s farm and our very own YMCA markets. Even though we had so much fun, we are so excited to start term 4.

We have had some new educators join the team here at YMCA. Keep a lookout for “meet the educator posts” on Story Park. We also encourage you to come say hi.

We would love to hear your feedback and suggestions, so feel free to email us or drop by the YMCA office for a chat.
