2022 Student Leaders Council and School Captains
During parade on Friday 28th October our 2022 Student Leaders Council and School Captains were announced.
Congratulations to the following students for being elected to the position for next year: Annabella Collins, Ivy Cowley, Zachary Smith, Nate Stevenson, Zeb Kelly, Shayla O’Sullivan, Harrison Single, Hayden Weir (school captain) and Poppy Greenhalgh (school captain). Well done to all of the 32 Year 5 students who presented themselves as nominees and presented speeches. It was a difficult (and close) selection process.
At parade this Friday the Music Captains for 2022 will be announced.
Staff Update for Term 4
Mrs Banks is on leave until this Friday and is replaced by Mrs Mazzer. Mrs Pearce our school cleaner is also on leave this week.
Mrs Marks (PE Teacher) has been transferred to Mount Samson and Dayboro for 2022. We wish you all the best at your new school next year and thank you for all the work you have done with our students at Kurwongbah.
Student Resource Collection
The P&C are asking parents to donate any unused resources or resources in excellent condition that would otherwise be returned home at the end of the year. These resources will then be used in 2022 for disadvantaged students in our school community. If you would like to participate, please complete the Student Resource Collection form and return to your child’s class teacher.
2022 Booklists
Please find below the 2022 Booklist for your child. The list includes specific items that our teachers have found to be good quality and meet the curriculum requirements for the year ahead. Please note that use of the listed supplier 'MySchool Gear' is entirely optional. Families can purchase items individually from any stationery store but we do ask that you purchase the items and quantities listed.
Children Leaving Kurwongbah
We are starting the process of forming classes for 2022. Parents whose child or children (other than Year 6 students) will be leaving Kurwongbah at the end of the year are asked to inform the school office please.
2022 Prep Enrolment
There are still some places available for Prep students in 2022. Children who were born between 1 July 2016 and 30 June 2017 are eligible to commence prep in 2022. Parents are invited to contact the school office (34814333) if they are intending to enrol their child at Kurwongbah for Prep in 2022.
School Council News
The School Council thanks outgoing members Mrs Liz Greer, Miss Sarah Bartlett and Mrs Jenelle Conlan for their support and time representing the parents and staff throughout 2020/2021. We appreciate your contributions and commitment to the students and Kurwongbah State School community. The school council is now seeking two parent representatives for nomination for 2022/2023.
The role of the School Council is to support the Principal in setting and reviewing the School’s Strategic planning and progress. Recent work focused on Strategic Partnerships including establishing a playgroup, connections with University of Southern Qld to promote learning partnerships and a focus on partnerships supporting sustainable practices within our school community. The current School Council have developed a 2022/23 Action Plan focusing on early years partnerships and sustainability practices within the school community. If you would like to know more about the School Council or may be interested in applying for the 2022/2023 position, please contact the Principal or school office (07) 3481 4333 or download the nomination form and return to the office.
School Disco
Last Friday night there was a large number of students and families who attended the P&C Disco held in our school hall. This was our first school disco in 18 months due to previous Covid restrictions being in place.
Thank you to everyone who attended, with a special thanks going to the P&C Fundraising Team who organised the event.
End Of Year Night of Music
Last night we were thoroughly entertained by so many Kurwongbah students at the annual End of Year Night of Music. It was wonderful for the students to be able to perform in front of a large audience after many months of rehearsals. The following groups performed: Junior Singers, Senior Singers, Performance Group, Kurwongbah Blokes, Junior and Senior Strings Ensemble, Junior Band and Senior Band.
We are very appreciative of the efforts of our music teachers – Mrs C., Mrs Rashada, Mr Denning, Mrs Porter, Mr Hamlin and Mr Martin – who prepared the students for their performances. A special thank you is extended to Mrs C for her organisation of the evening and to Mr Waldron for hosting the programme.
The P&C Music Support Group ran the sausage sizzle and served refreshments prior to the concert starting.
All in all, a great team effort led to a wonderful evening of musical entertainment.
School Parades
Thank you to Junior C, Mrs Butler and Miss Elphinstone for an entertaining parade presentation which celebrated World Teacher’s and Staff Support Day. Junior C was supported on stage by their Buddy Class Senior C. Well done students and teachers for your confident performance.
Thank you to the Junior and Senior String Ensembles who performed two pieces on parade last Friday. Thank you to Mrs Rashada and students for performing to such a high standard. It was lovely to have you all back on stage after many months of rehearsals.

Failing to adhere to these guidelines, means that we are unable to administer the medication to your student and you will be called to either collect the student or come and administer the medication yourself.
If your child has had an Action Plan (of any sort), these need to be updated every 12 months. It is preferable this occurs at the beginning of each year.

YMCA OSHC
We cannot believe we are already half way through the term! Here at OSHC our program has been jam packed with so many fun experiences, keeping us entertained and engaged.
We have two compost bins outside of our rooms and multiple times a week we take the composting scraps down to the large compost bin. The children are so amazed that the scraps can be used for something else. They ask lots of questions and love getting hands on with the composting.
As you may have noticed, our room has undergone a little bit of a makeover. With the help of our children, we have been making new signs to be displayed around our room. It is great to get the children’s contribution to make our room look fantastic. This also helps the children to feel a sense of belonging.
Just a reminder that 2022 enrolments have also opened. All families should have received an email in regards to completing these. If you have any questions about enrolments or are looking to enrol your child for 2022 please contact the service on AKB@ymcabrisbane.org or 0448 244 060.
