Covid Restrictions Update

Schools have returned to business as usual since Monday 7th March, with the following restrictions being lifted: mask wearing in schools and limited access to school sites.

Parades, incursions, excursions and access to the school site for all parents and carers has resumed since Monday 7th March.

Volunteers are also a welcome return to our classrooms however all volunteers must provide evidence of full vaccination at sign in at the school office. COVID safe practices including hand washing and classroom ventilation practices will continue.

Students who are unwell are to remain home and students who present as unwell during the school day are expected to be collected promptly from school. RAT tests will be sent home with parents, until the end of Term 1, if the child presents with COVID-like symptoms.

Parents will continue to be notified of positive COVID cases within classes via a letter emailed home to class members.

Close contact quarantine requirements remain in place.

Friday 18th March - National Day Of Action Against Bullying And Violence

Whilst we work every day to stamp out bullying, we will be acknowledging No Bullying Day this Friday during parade as well as during class Positive Behaviour for Learning lessons this week.

Please note this is not a free dress day on Friday 18th March. We will be having a free dress day on Monday 21st March Harmony Day. Let’s all work together to make our school a bully free place where both children and adults adopt and model our value of CARING to support and build one another up rather than knocking people down. Please see link below to video which highlights to students the different types of unacceptable bullying behaviour.

The national definition of bullying for Australian schools says:

Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening.

Bullying can happen in person or online, via various digital platforms and devices and it can be obvious (overt) or hidden (covert). Bullying behaviour is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time (for example, through sharing of digital records).

Bullying of any form or for any reason can have immediate, medium and long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders. Single incidents and conflict or fights between equals, whether in person or online, are not defined as bullying

Harmony Day Free Dress Day – Monday 21 March

Harmony Day is an Australian Government program that centers on the message that “Everyone belongs”, reinforcing the importance of inclusiveness to all Australians. On Monday 21st March students will be encouraged to wear something orange to school along with a gold coin donation. All money raised will go to directly to supporting One Mile State School and Gympie State School who were severely impacted by recent flooding.

Early Departures

Please be advised that should you need to collect your child / children from school before 3 pm, you may be asked to show photo ID at the office or First Aide Room. This procedure is to ensure the safety of our students and we thank you in advance for your cooperation with this procedure.

Uploading Photos

Please be aware that if you take any photographs of a school activity they CANNOT be uploaded or shared with others. We do not want to prevent you taking photos of your child, however we need to be mindful of privacy issues and the safety of individuals.

School Play Equipment

A reminder to students, parents and carers that, in the interest of student safety, school play equipment and play areas are out of bounds before and after school. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Voluntary Contribution

Voluntary Contribution is a vital part of the Kurwongbah P&C’s commitment and helps to fund reading books, maths & science consumables, art consumables, digital resources, sporting equipment and positive behaviour learning program resources.

You can make a financial contribution to the school by completing the attached form and forwarding with payment to the school office. The contribution equates to $1 per week for the 40 weeks of the school year. If parents would like to pay a larger or smaller contribution towards their child’s education they are welcome to do so.

Eco-Marines News

The EcoMarines have started their first project for the year. They are currently making a video to educate students on how to use the recently purchased multi-sort bins that are going to be trialled by the Year 5 students. The multi-sort bins, along with two compost tumblers and a Subpod (in ground worm farm) were purchased from funds received from a grant the school applied for late last year. The grant, provided by the Department of Environment and Science's, seeks to empower Queensland school aged children to become agents of long-term change to improve their school’s waste management with a strong emphasis on organic waste management. The EcoMarines are going to be key drivers of the project this year. The multi-sort bins will enable students to sort rubbish into recyclables, organic waste and landfill waste. The multi-sort bins should assist the students achieve the main goal of the project which is to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

All students involved in the Instrumental Music and/or Choral Program have now been invoiced. An accompanying note has also been sent home, with details itemising the amounts payable for your child. Invoices are to be paid by Friday 29th April.

Thank you to everyone who has returned the Student Resource Scheme (SRS) forms. Students who have not returned the forms have been sent a dojo message and hard copies have been sent home with your child. Please ensure the forms are returned promptly.
