Eco-Marines News
The trial of the multi-sort bins with the Year 5 cohort has continued to be a success. The students are now becoming very knowledgeable about how to sort their waste. The compost bins are filling up more quickly and in the three weeks we have been conducting the trial $18.40 has been raised from recyclable containers. We have been returning the recyclables to the big purple shipping container (recycling depot) at the edge of the oval on Frenchs Road.
If members of the community would also like to return containers and donate their refund to the school, they can label their bag of recyclable containers with the following code: C10192453
In other news, the Eco-Marines have an excursion planned to Tangalooma Island on the 5th of May. The aim of the day is to train students so they feel capable of fulfilling their role as an Eco-Marine Ambassador. Our Eco-Marines will attend workshops, presentations and be involved in team building activities. They will also have the opportunity to feed wild dolphins. They are very much looking forward to this wonderful experience.

Solid Pathways Term 2
Selected students from Year 4, 5 and 6 are again participating in Solid Pathways for Term 2. Students will attend a 1- hour session every week, engaging with other students from a variety of schools in a collaborative, interactive, online environment for STEM related activities in a virtual reality program.
Kurwongbah’s Tech Girls Team
The Techgirls program is about changing the way girls perceive and engage in STEM. The program combines problem-solving through a social, business and technical lens, producing high-quality business plans, pitch videos and working app prototypes from girls as young as 7 to 17. Through highlighting pathways and role models and connecting teams with female mentors, students engage to build skills, which help to build confidence, teamwork and mentorship to help grow courage. Two teams of students from Year 6 are entering this year into the competition and are looking forward to the challenge! Best wishes for the project girls!
Robotic Immersion Day
Selected students from Year 5 attended the RoboCoast Robotics Immersion Day at Undurba on the 21st April. Students participated in a variety of challenges learning to control their robot and create programs using code. They engaged in a mini sumo robotics tournament to culminate the day. Well done students on your great efforts!
